Madurai though being a city is surrounded by more than 150 villages and the main occupation of the people is agriculture . In those due to lack of education these people where not aware of any medical advancements During 1971 late Dr.G.C.Anbunathan and his wife Dr.Ranjitham Anbunathan took an initiative to create awareness about health care . Started with 12 beds and an operation theatre they tried to give maximum service to the poor . This trust which is located at the eastern proximal end of Madurai was built with the only vision of service to the poor .This particular area was selected keeping in mind the villagers near by who survive only by agriculture and small scale industries .

The founder who was a Endocrinologist and clinician used all his expertise to treat the poor suffering with diabetes. His wife who was a gynecologists educated and trained at Christian Medical College , Vellore was the first Doctor to educate the women in the surrounding Thirupattur (Sivagangai dist) villages about safe child birth . Even rendering service through trust the doctor couple was not satisfied and so they frequently visited interior villages and held free medical camps. Apart from these social activities Dr.G .C. Anbunathan also did free medical consultation for various institutions like Thiagarajar Arts and Science College, Madurai, South Tamilnadu, for both men and women students . And did free camps for De La Salle College ( Now called as Arulananthar College ) students , Karumatur, South Tamilnadu and their charitable organization called as Boy’s town ( orphanage ) at Pulluthu near Solavanthan. He did free service to the residential fathers and students residing at St. Mary’s School at East gate, Madurai, South Tamilnadu. As they grew older the services done by them slowed done, but their elder son who is also a doctor became their successor to carryover the duties left by them.
