Madurai though being a city is surrounded by more than 150 villages and the main occupation of the people is agriculture . In those due to lack of education these people where not aware of any medical advancements During 1971 late Dr.G.C.Anbunathan and his wife Dr.Ranjitham Anbunathan took an initiative to create awareness about health care . Started with 12 beds and an operation theatre they tried to give maximum service to the poor . This trust which is located at the eastern proximal end of Madurai was built with the only vision of service to the poor .This particular area was selected keeping in mind the villagers near by who survive only by agriculture and small scale industries .
